Do Full Moons Cause Earthquakes ?

www.funtowatch.TV Do Full Moons Cause Earthquakes ? Leave a comment. I have heard theories about earthquakes happening on or around the full moon and thought I'd check when the ten strongest earthquakes occurred and what the phase of the moon was at that time. The online moon phase calculator I used only went back to 1952 but I used it figuring I wouldn't find any correlation anyway, but I was definitely wrong. Of the top 10 strongest earthquakes that occurred during that time period 7 happened within 3 days of a full moon and 2 were within 3 days of a new moon. I live on an island and know that the strongest tides occur around the full and new moons, with the full moon having the stronger tides of the two. In John mcphee's book, "Basin and Range" he talks about rocks rising to the surface from below. Farmers are very familiar with this phenomenon. In fact, a farmer that I know who's in his 80's has said he thinks rocks grow because he's been clearing them from his land for decades and they never stop coming back! But what really happens is that the surface of the earth moves up and down twice a day just like the tides, as much as 3 feet. We just don't see it happening because it's all moving at the same time, as opposed to the tides which we see rising and falling relative to the land, and it's this constant movement that moves the soil and brings rocks to the surface. It's the same physics that makes the larger potato chips rise to the top of the bag and moves the ...
